Tackling Inflation and Supporting Residents

High inflation is something we haven’t seen as a country for forty years. Well documented global factors are causing rising inflation and a soaring US Dollar, which has risen by roughly 20% against the Pound, Euro and Yen over the last 12 months. Higher inflation makes us all poorer and it is right that governments around the world and their financial institutions make tackling it their economic priority. Our own government’s energy price cap is estimated to be stopping a further 5% rise in inflation that would otherwise happen on top on what we already have.

The long Platinum Jubilee bank holiday weekend is almost upon us. This milestone is a truly defining moment in our nation’s rich and proud history, an occasion that none of us alive today will ever see again. Her Majesty The Queen is our longest ever serving monarch and the longest serving in the world today. It is of course not just about length of service, remarkable as that is, but about how well she has served us and represented our nation and the Commonwealth. I hope everyone will have some free time over the next few days to be able to enjoy the festivities as we celebrate this historic milestone.
