Henry Smith MP has challenged a former Health Secretary over the future of the National Health Service in Crawley.
Henry said;
“The Labour Shadow Health Secretary’s party removed our A&E and maternity services from Crawley Hospital, yet he did not commit to increase NHS funding in the next Parliament.
“In contrast, this Government have not only increased funding for the NHS by £12.7 billion, and the Prime Minister has said that increased spending will continue in the next Parliament.
“I am pleased to see health services returning to Crawley Hospital, and that it has an additional 200 doctors and nurses in comparison to 2010, and I am grateful to the hardworking staff who serve patients in Crawley – my family and I included.”
Henry Smith, Member of Parliament for Crawley, said in the House of Commons;
“Under the previous Government, Crawley’s accident and emergency was closed. Will the right hon. Gentleman now commit to increasing funding on the NHS, as this Government have done every single year of this Parliament, and promise to do for the next?”
Rt Hon Andy Burnham MP, Shadow Secretary of State for Health, responded on Crawley matters, with;
“Changes we made were done in a planned way, with measures to increase capacity at neighbouring accident and emergency departments, and they were done for reasons of patient safety.”
