Henry Smith MP has been appointed a Patron of the Fair Votes for All campaign. The campaign is calling for English Votes for the English Nation (EVEN) to be introduced into the House of Commons as soon as possible.
Henry said;
“I am delighted to become a Patron of the Fair Votes for All campaign. This is about sorting out the constitutional imbalances of our political system to ensure English issues are decided by England’s Members of Parliament.
“There are significant areas of policy which are devolved to the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh, but as it stands now, Scottish MPs in Westminster can vote on matters affecting England in the House of Commons, even though English MPs rightly can’t vote on Scotland issues.
“With more powers being devolved to Scotland following the independence referendum last year, it is not fair that Scottish MPs continue to determine issues that do not affect their constituents. This campaign is about ensuring that we can make decisions about our own priorities in our classrooms and in our NHS.”
Graham Stuart, Member of Parliament for Beverley and Holderness and Chairman of the Fair Votes for All campaign, commented;
“I am glad to welcome Henry Smith MP as a Patron of the campaign. Henry is a fantastic local representative who is standing up for Crawley.
“As more powers are handed over to the Scottish Parliament, this basic constitutional unfairness cannot be ignored any longer.”
