Henry Smith MP has welcomed the latest statistics showing that East Surrey Hospital is outperforming the English national average in terms of accident and emergency waiting times.
The Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust saw 94.4 per cent of A&E patients within the four hour target. The English national average rate for all A&E patients to be seen within four hours stands at 92.6 per cent. Both figures are for October to December 2014.
Henry said;
“I am grateful to the dedicated Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust staff, whose attitude and compassion is a constant source of inspiration. We’ve all been to or taken someone to A&E, and can see how hard staff work.”
The four hour figure reflects the time taken from arrival to admission, transfer or discharge.
No patients were waiting for more than 12 hours from decision to admit to admission.
Henry continued;
“The Government made plans to help the NHS over the winter. The first tranche of £700 million to treat patients has already been made available, and pays for the equivalent of 1,000 extra doctors, 2,000 nurses and 2,000 community staff, including social workers and physiotherapists.”
“However, I am aware that the statistics seem irrelevant if you’re concerned for a loved one. If I am ever able to assist by, for example, contacting the local NHS, please let me know by either writing to the House of Commons, London, SW1A 0AA, or by emailing me directly at [email protected]”
