Henry Smith MP has welcomed figures showing that 640 new apprenticeships were started in Crawley last year.
In total, over 3,080 new apprenticeships have been started in the town since 2010-11.
Henry said;
“I am pleased to see that more than 3,000 apprenticeships have been started in our town since 2010, including 640 in 2013-14 alone.
“It is essential we deliver the best schools and skills for our young people, so they have the abilities and opportunities needed to get a good job, ensuring they can have a brighter, more secure future ahead.”
The Prime Minister has pledged to go even further, making a £1 billion commitment to deliver 3 million apprenticeships by 2020 and end youth unemployment, funded by reducing the maximum amount that can be claimed on benefits from £26,000 to £23,000, and limiting young people’s access to housing benefit.
Across England, more than 1.9 million apprenticeships have been started since 2010, with the number of apprenticeships having more than doubled in this parliament.
Recent figures from the Office for National Statistics and the House of Commons Library shows that Crawley youth unemployment currently stands at 1.8 per cent, a record low since comparable records began.
