Henry Smith MP has welcomed a fall in Crawley unemployment to 1.8 per cent, down by a third over the last six months. The latest information from the Office for National Statistics shows that the figure is at its lowest for six years and is based on the Jobseekers Allowance claimant rate for August 2014.
Henry said;
“I am pleased to see that unemployment in Crawley is still falling, and is now at 1.8 per cent. Our town’s joblessness rate has gone down by a third in the last six months, and has fallen by more than half since the last election.
“However, having been unemployed myself, I know that when you’re jobhunting, the figures don’t seem that relevant – it’s 100 per cent of a problem.
“This is why I would urge people across the town who are looking for work to attend my Crawley Jobs Fair this Friday, 19th September, at the Civic Hall. Admission is of course free to all, and will be open from 10am until 3pm.
“A variety of significant local and national employers will be in attendance, as well as organisations who seek to match people’s skills with a host of different positions available. The National Careers Service will also be on hand to provide help with putting together CVs – something I know to be all too important when it comes to sending off applications.
“This is how I personally want to reduce unemployment. I’ll be at the Jobs Fair on Friday – please do say hello if you’re coming down.”
