Henry Smith MP has welcomed the latest figures showing that youth unemployment in Crawley is at its lowest level since comparable records began in October 2004.
The figure represents a rate of 1.8 per cent. Unemployment across all ages is at its lowest since May 2008, a rate of at 1.6 per cent.
Henry said;
“I am pleased that Crawley youth unemployment is at a record low, having fallen by a third in the last six months, and a going down by over two fifths over the course of the last year.
“I know there is more to do. This is why I organised the Crawley Jobs Fairs – I want to play my part in helping people find work.
“I am pleased that the rate of unemployment across all ages in our town has fallen by more than a third over the last 12 months. The figure has not been this low since May 2008.
“Policies such as the Employment Allowance have had an effect on Crawley companies; a number of small business owners have told me that the £2,000 allowance has had a direct influence on the number of people they can hire and train.
“Across the country, almost 2.2 million more people are employed in the private sector since 2010. Additionally, full time jobs accounted for 95 per cent of the rise in employment over the past year.
“Of course, I know there is more to do; I will continue to represent the interests of people in Crawley in Parliament and to the Prime Minister, and I will continue to fight for everyone in our town.”
