Henry Smith MP has spoken in the House of Commons today about Crawley Capers, and has called on people across the whole of Sussex and beyond to support them in their bid to win £50,000 of funding from the People’s Millions scheme.
Henry said;
“I am grateful to the Speaker for allowing me to raise in Parliament my call for people to Vote for Capers! The Crawley Town FC Community Sports Foundation and Autism Sussex are doing fantastic work in mentoring children with autism.
“Their work has a focus on football, but also sees the children taking part in arts and crafts activities in the pod overlooking the pitch at the Checkatrade.com Stadium.”
The project is shortlisted by the People’s Millions as one of six social action projects in with a chance of winning £50,000. The People’s Millions is a partnership between the Big Lottery Fund and ITV, where the public help decide which local groups can receive National Lottery funding.
Voting is open from 9am on Wednesday 26th November until midnight. The phone number to call to Vote for Capers will also be released on Wednesday morning.
The two-hour sessions encourage participation from autistic children and family members, to help develop social skills and positive play within a family group.
These ‘Caper’ sessions have seen children with autism blossom alongside their peers, and it has also helped behaviour, community integration, as well as learning and listening skills.
Henry continued;
“I will do my bit and Vote for Capers on Wednesday – please keep an eye on ITV Meridian, the Daily Mirror, and the People’s Millions website – www.peoplesmillions.org.uk – for the number to ring.
“Social media will be important in spreading the word next week – please follow @Vote4Capers on Twitter at www.twitter.com/Vote4Capers and on Facebook at www.facebook.com/Vote4Capers, and please share, retweet, and – of course – vote!”
