Henry Smith MP has congratulated Autism Sussex and the Crawley Town FC Community Sports Foundation, upon the announcement that Crawley Capers has been successful in its bid for £50,000 of funding from the People’s Millions.
Henry said;
“I am delighted to see that Crawley Capers has been successful in its bid for £50,000 of funding.
"It was fantastic to see on Facebook and Twitter on Wednesday how many people joined me in spreading the word, across Crawley and beyond. Crawley Capers is a great project, and my congratulations to everyone who has been a part of its success so far.
“Thank you to everyone who cast their Vote for Capers!”
Henry spoke in the House of Commons last week to hail the work of Crawley Capers, and gave his support on voting day as well. Their activities focus on football, and also see the children take part in arts and crafts activities, in the pod overlooking the pitch at the Checkatrade.com Stadium.
These two-hour sessions encourage participation from autistic children as well as family members, to help develop social skills and positive play within a family group.
The ‘Caper’ sessions have seen children with autism blossom alongside their peers, and it has also helped behaviour, community integration, as well as learning and listening skills.
Writing on Twitter, the Crawley Town FC Community Sports Foundation posted;
“Bigger, Better, Brighter Capers...autistic children through football & arts. Thanks to the children and parents”
