Crawley’s unemployment claimant rate has fallen to its lowest levels since the economic boom years preceding July 2008.
Commenting, Henry said:
“The latest statistics revealed by the independent Office for National Statistics (ONS) show Crawley’s return to pre-recession employment levels across all age groups.
“Our town’s joblessness has more than halved to 2 per cent under this Government’s long term economic plan and I’m especially pleased that youth unemployment specifically has now fallen by three-quarters to 2.3 per cent.
“In human terms, this means there are over 1,200 more Crawley folk who are now in employment compared to June 2010 – these are real people who have been able to return to work and to get on in life.
“In the same vain, however, there are still 1,177 unemployed claimants in Crawley which goes to show that we need to stick to the long term economic plan which is working for our town as there is clearly still more to be done to support people back into work.
“For my part, I’ll be hosting the second consecutive annual, free of charge Crawley Jobs Fair at the Civic Hall on Friday, 19th September 2014, to encourage local jobseekers to meet and speak with key local employers; including major firms such as CGG, Elekta and Vent-Axia.”
