Henry Smith MP and the Health Secretary have hailed the return of health services to Crawley, as the Secretary of State confirmed that Crawley Hospital has 97 more doctors and 107 new nurses since 2010.
Henry said;
“I am always grateful for the opportunity to raise the issue of health services in Crawley in the House of Commons.
“It is right for our town that the Government has ensured there are over 200 additional doctors and nurses at Crawley Hospital since five years ago.
“Nationally, the NHS is increasing capacity this winter, with 4,700 more nurses, 800 more consultants, and 2,400 more acute beds. Since 2010, there are 6,000 more nurses and 8,000 additional doctors.
“I was also pleased to open Crawley’s new Digital Mammography Unit in 2012.
“If there is anything I can do to assist anyone in our town with regard to an NHS matter, never hesitate to get in contact.”
Henry Smith, Member of Parliament for Crawley, asked the Health Secretary;
“In 2005 under the previous Labour Government, Crawley Hospital’s A and E department was closed, but I am pleased to say that in recent years health and other emergency services have been returning to the facility.
“Will my right hon. Friend consider centring more emergency centres in Crawley, as the natural sub-regional population centre?”
The Secretary of State for Health, Rt Hon Jeremy Hunt MP, responded;
“I congratulate my hon. Friend on his campaigning for Crawley Hospital and pay tribute to staff at the hospital, which was rated “good” by the Care Quality Commission last year as part of the new inspection regime.
“He will welcome the fact that since 2010 the number of doctors at the hospital has increased by 97 and the number of nurses by 107. Of course, we will always consider ways to improve services for his constituents.”
