Henry Smith MP is calling on the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rt Hon Philip Hammond MP, to cut fuel duty in the Autumn Statement on 23rd November to help ensure Crawley residents keep more of their hard-earned money in their pockets.
The Crawley MP is among more than 50 parliamentarians who have signed a letter to the Chancellor, urging him to help families and small businesses. The MPs are also urging Philip Hammond to set up a powerful PumpWatch watchdog to stop motorists getting unfairly over-charged at the forecourt by big oil companies.
Henry said;
“When prices go up at the pumps, it’s hard-working families and businesses that are hit hardest.
“Too often drivers in Crawley are taken for a ride by big oil companies. They feel fuel prices fall like a feather but rise like a rocket.
“That’s why I’m also urging the Chancellor to set up a new PumpWatch body to police predatory pricing at the pump. This would stop motorists in Crawley and across the country getting ripped off.
“I’m backing this letter as cutting fuel duty would be a huge boost to drivers in Crawley – and of massive benefit to local businesses.”
The letter was sent by Dover MP Charlie Elphicke, chair of the FairFuel All-Party Parliamentary Group, ahead of the Autumn Statement next week.
Henry is also urging drivers in Crawley to sign a parliamentary e-petition to support a debate in Westminster on PumpWatch. The new watchdog would ensure motorists could see who their money is going to when they fill up.
